Romans, Gauls, Teutons, Egyptians, Huns or Spartans; a village that becomes a network of cities; and a map full of people who will attack you while you sleep. The depth is real and I respect it. The schedule is also real. Normal servers want you daily, speed servers want you at odd hours, and an alliance will notice when you are not there.

I played solo for a week, got farmed, joined an alliance and had a much better fortnight. Gold buys convenience and a measurable edge, most of all in the endgame. If I had the hours this would score higher from me; I do not, and the time column says so.

This is the one I would defend in an argument. Rounds end, so nobody is permanently ahead. Diplomacy, scouting and timing decide things, and the six tribes play differently enough that a second round is a new game. With a good alliance and a spreadsheet habit it is as good as conflict strategy gets in a web page.

Yes, it asks for time. So does anything with stakes. The gold edge is there and I marked it down for that, but the top alliances on our server were the organised ones, not the rich ones.

Where the fold closes

The deepest game on this site and the most demanding of a calendar. Excellent with an alliance, a short season without one; rounds that end are its great virtue, and gold buys a real advantage late.
