Take jobs on a map for money and experience, buy better gear, duel other players and join a town that fights over forts in large scheduled battles. The questline has real wit, the jobs run on a timer you set and walk away from, and ten-minute visits are the natural shape of it.
The fort battles are the reason it is on the site at all: surprisingly tactical, properly social, and the one time the whole server seems to be in the same place. Nuggets buy gear and conveniences, and the gap shows in duels; I avoided duels and was happy.

The player base has shrunk and you feel it. Towns are quiet, markets are thin, and some of the charm Rowan describes depends on finding the right town early, which took me most of week one. The interface is small and dated and I never stopped noticing.
Where I agree is the writing, which is better than it has any right to be, and the forts. I just think a new player should know that the frontier is a settled place now and that paying players win more duels than the game lets on.
Where the fold closes
A light daily habit with charming writing and tactical fort battles, on a server population that has thinned. Dated interface, and the paying players win more duels.
